Ray & Vivian Chew

Founders
Chew Entertainment

Ray and Vivian Chew are a powerhouse duo whose contributions have helped shape the sound, soul, and legacy of Black culture across music, television, and global entertainment.

With decades of impact and influence, they have not only transformed stages and airwaves, but have also built platforms for the next generation of creative leaders. Ray Chew is one of the most respected music directors, producers, and composers in the entertainment industry. His work spans television, film, live events, and orchestral performance, with an unparalleled career that includes musical leadership on Dancing with the Stars (ABC) Showtime at the Apollo (NBC), American Idol (FOX), and Sunday Best (BET).

Ray has crafted soundscapes for the Primetime Emmy Awards, BET Awards, Miss Universe, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and historic moments such as President Barack Obama’s Neighborhood Inaugural Ball. As a composer and conductor, Ray has led performances at Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, Lincoln Center, and international stages from Norway to South Africa. He has worked with a who’s who of global music icons—including Rihanna, Pharrell Williams, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Prince, Jennifer Hudson, and Justin Timberlake. Ray’s ability to fuse gospel, classical, soul, and pop into unforgettable musical experiences has made him one of the most trusted
musical curators in the world.

Vivian Scott Chew is a trailblazer in her own right. With a career rooted in breaking barriers, she began as the first African American female Membership Representative at ASCAP, where she founded the iconic Rhythm & Soul Awards. She went on to become a senior executive at
Polygram Records and Sony Music, where she signed Grammy-winning dancehall legend Shabba Ranks and helped introduce Caribbean music to a global audience. Later, she founded TimeZone International, the first U.S.-based Black-owned firm dedicated to global music
marketing and promotion.

Together, the Chews are the visionary team behind Chew Entertainment, a premier event and production firm known for curating unforgettable live experiences—including A Night of Inspiration at Carnegie Hall, a multigenerational concert experience promoting unity through music. Their work seamlessly blends cultural artistry with a deep commitment to representation and purpose. Their impact extends far beyond the stage. In 2013, they co-founded the Power 2 Inspire Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to mentoring and empowering the next generation of musicians, vocalists, songwriters, and music executives. Through virtual internships, masterclasses, and mentorship programs, they have supported more than 150 young creatives, many of whom have gone on to thrive in the industry.

From global stages to grassroots mentorship, Ray and Vivian Chew embody excellence, service, and legacy. Their lifelong dedication to elevating Black music, mentoring future leaders, and building cross-cultural bridges makes them true vanguards of our time. The BlackStars Awards is proud to honor Ray and Vivian Chew with the Vanguard Award for Cultural Legacy & Impact in recognition of their extraordinary contributions to the arts and the global Black community.
