The Standard

As 2nd Vice President, Client Management at The Standard, Carl is accountable for the development and execution of the Employee Benefits – Client Management relationship strategy. He is responsible for leading the account management team that manages a $3 billion inforce book of business.  

Prior to rejoining The Standard in October 2020, Carl was Vice President, Customer Relationship Management at Prudential, where he was responsible for leading an organization that successfully developed and executed a strategic service and relationship management vision that consistently achieved growth targets while maintaining long-term profitable customer relationships.

Carl returned to The Standard with 38 years of insurance industry experience, with the last 26 years primarily in service and relationship management leadership roles for group insurance carriers. Carl served as Director, Relationship Management for The Hartford’s Central, Northeast and Southeast Regions, managing a $1 billion book of business across small, regional, and national accounts. 

Prior to his role with The Hartford, Carl spent eight years with The Standard, first as a Service Manager, then as a Field Service and Underwriting Manager for the Washington, DC sales office.  He began his insurance career with Cigna as an Assistant Manager, Life & Health Claims.  He worked as an insurance investigator conducting investigations into potential life, health, disability and fraud cases.  

Carl earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Hampton University, Hampton, VA and holds his Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI), Associate, Customer Service (ACS), Professional, Customer Service (PCS) and Group Benefits Disability Specialist (GBDS) designations.

Carl served as the Director, Executive Engagement for Prudential’s Black Leadership Forum (BRG).  Professional Mentor.  Currently the Co-Founder and Executive Sponsor of The Standard’s first Black Employee Network (ERG).  Current Board Member of the National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) Metro DC Chapter, where he serves as Chair of the Emerging Leaders Committee.  Carl enjoys power walking, playing tennis and spending time with his family.
