At U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, he led national sales efforts across 14 regional markets and helped accelerate $324 million in new client assets. At UBS, he guided platform rollouts to more than 6,000 advisors. At LPL Financial, he launched new ventures for a network of more than 16,000 independent advisors, including a digital referral platform and an internal innovation incubator. As Managing Director and Head of Affluent Markets at Wells Fargo, he rebuilt the segment’s growth strategy. He identified $4.2 billion in net new asset opportunity, converted more than $300 million into funded accounts within three months, and delivered 13% year-over-year revenue growth. He also built a Sports & Entertainment ultra-high-net-worth division from concept, and it secured more than $700 million in assets in its first year. In total, more than 22,000 advisors have used digital platforms he helped bring to life.
Markell is the founder of GreenByrd, home to Green Byrd Advisory, a consultancy that helps RIAs and advisors build and grow independent firms. He is also the creator of Signals of Clarity™, a proprietary AI framework for client engagement and the subject of a U.S. patent application. The framework reads clients’ financial behaviors, values, and aspirations, and it shapes how and when firms communicate with them. In a live pilot, it reached more than one million new users, lifted click-through rates by 80%, and re-engaged half of users who had been inactive for 90 days. His aim is to help advisors and wealth firms serve every community well, especially communities the industry has historically overlooked.
His work has earned wide industry recognition. He was a finalist for both the InvestmentNews Wealth Management Trailblazer Award and the WealthManagement.com Thought Leadership Award. He was also named an InvestmentNews Rising Star and one of the Association of African American Advisors’ Top 50 Under 50.
