Dr. Kulleni Gebreyes is a physician, executive, and systems builder who has dedicated her career to proving a fundamental truth: that doing right and doing well are not competing priorities — they are the same strategy. At the intersection of medicine, business, and purpose, she leads with the conviction that advancing human health is not just a moral imperative but one of the most powerful drivers of sustainable business performance.

As Vice Chair and US Life Sciences & Health Care (LSHC) Industry Leader at Deloitte, she leads a practice of more than 15,000 professionals and oversees a $4B business serving the world’s most influential health care and life sciences organizations. She serves on the Deloitte US Board of Directors, shaping the strategy and governance of a $30B global firm. Since joining Deloitte in 2019, she has held successive leadership roles including founding Executive Director of the Deloitte Health Institute, Chief Health Officer, and National Health Care Consulting Leader.

Before Deloitte, Dr. Gebreyes served as a Principal at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Senior Vice President at Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care, and Medical Director at MedStar Health System. Trained as an emergency physician at Johns Hopkins Hospital and faculty at Georgetown School of Medicine and George Washington University, her career spans clinical practice, global health work across Ethiopia, Tanzania, and China, and recognition as International Scholar of the Year by the Johns Hopkins Center for International Emergency, Disaster, and Refugee Studies.

A committed civic leader, she has served on the boards of the Carol Emmott Foundation and JSI Inc. As Deloitte’s CEO Lieutenant for the American Heart Association CEO Roundtable, she leads health equity strategy alongside executives from 50 Fortune 500 companies representing 13 million+ employees and families. Her work has been recognized with the American Heart Association Award of Meritorious Achievement, the March of Dimes Ellen Anne Roberts Health Equity in Business Award, the Bright Pink ChangeMaker for Health Equity Award, and BioAsia Health Innovator 2025.

She is a World Economic Forum Agenda Contributor, a speaker at the inaugural TIME100 Female Leadership Forum, and a National Strategic Advisor to Meharry Medical School’s Institute of Global Health Equity. Her insights appear regularly in TIME, Fortune, the Wall Street Journal, CNN, NPR, and Modern Healthcare.

Dr. Gebreyes holds an MD from Harvard Medical School, a BA from Princeton University, and an MBA from Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
